Annotated Summary

According to the article titled “Ministerial Statement by Senior Minister of State for Transport Dr Lam Pin Min on Personal Mobility Devices”, states the risks and benefits of having a Personal Mobility Devices (PMD). With the increasing amount of PMD users, there have been many accidents that had occurred over these past few years. The causes of these accidents are mostly by irresponsible PMD users who speed with their PMD and breaking the law. Some cases were PMD catching up on fire which causes residents to be concerned about their neighbours who own PMDs. To counter this, LTA concluded that it is required to have a UL2272 certified PMD for PMD users. To reduce the number of accidents, some key areas have been implemented. In the article “Singapore revs up engines for autonomous vehicle race”, Noble (2019) states that Singapore has made an advancement towards Autonomous Vehicles (AV) to promote safety in recent years to be on par with other countries. With the launch of AVs, TR68 was implemented to promote safety. By implementing driverless vehicles, it is beneficial for providing aid to the disabled and mobility towards the elderly. Most accidents occur due to human error. Thus, AVs also helps to provide the safety of the community and the environment.
